The Last Kingdom, Netflix’s historical drama, has been renewed for a fourth season on 26 December 2018. The first season of the show premiered in October 2015, the second season of The Last Kingdom premiered in March 2017. The Last Kingdom season 3 premiered on Netflix in November 2018.
The show is based on Bernard Cornwell’s The Saxon Stories novels, with each season of the show following the events of two books. The story of the show is set in the 9th century AD The story revolves around the Uhtred, son of Uhtred, a Saxon boy who’s brought up by Danes after they seize him and choose to raise him as their own.
However, Uhtred later betrayed, and the Danes come to think that he murdered his adoptive father, the Danish warlord Ragnar, the Elder. Uhtred is required to travel to Wessex, the only one of the seven kingdoms that aren’t in Danish control.
Once he arrived at Wessex, he volunteers his assistance to the Wessex king, Alfred, including knowledge of the Danes’ battle strategies.
The show has successfully completed three seasons and the fourth season has also been announced. As Netflix announced the show for its fourth season, here’s what we know about season 4 of the show so far.
Release Date Of Season 4 On Netflix?
The renewal of season 4 of the show was announced on 26 December 2018. Netflix confirmed in April 2019 that the shooting of the show having 10 new episodes had begun and in July 2019, the show’s Instagram page invited fans to “join Uhtred next year on Netflix as the battle proceeds” – so it seems like season four of the show will arrive at the end of 2020 or the beginning of 2021.
Cast Of Season 4
Alexander Dreymon is set to return in season 4 of the show as Uhtred of Bebbanburg, and, with the relations between the kingdoms broken, he thinks the timing is right to challenge his uncle Aelfric, performed by Joseph Millson.
With Dreymon and Millson, the returning cast of the show includes Ian Hart (Father Beocca), Emily Cox (Brida), Toby Regbo (Aethelred), Timothy Innes (Kind Edward), Eliza Butterworth (Aelswith), Millie Brady (Aethelflaed), Mark Rowley (Finan) Magnus Bruun (Cnut) and Jeppe Beck Laursen (Haesten).
The streaming giant has also confirmed that Stefanie Martini, Prime Suspect 1973 star, will join the cast of season 4 as Eadith, Aethelred’s new love conquest.
The Halcyon star Jamie Blackley will also join the cast of season 4 of The Last Kingdom as Aethelred’s new right-hand man Eardwulf.
