On Friday morning, a suspected home intruder was killed after he allegedly surprised a sleeping Bradenton homeowner by putting a gun to the head of the homeowner.
Male Home Intruder Shot
The Manatee County Sheriff’s Office explained that ‘The unknown male intruder then fired a round of bullet next to his head and started pistol-whipping him. The victim started fighting back, and the unknown male intruder dropped the gun. The victim tells police that he then grabbed the gun and fired one round at the male intruder, who fell to the ground.’
The male suspect was distinguished as 26-year-old Demetrius Antonio Downer, and he was discovered near the house in the 4500 27th Street West.
The sheriff’s office said that ‘It appears the black male suspect died from a gunshot injury.’
The homeowner then ran next door to inform a neighbor what happened. The sheriff’s office said that ‘When deputies entered the home, they saw a pistol and the back door open, but no one was on the ground as the victim had said.’
Intruder Found Unresponsive
Police searched the neighborhood using K-9 and the UAS response team. The sheriff’s office said that ‘While piloting the drone, an unresponsive black male was noticed on the ground against a condo building, straight east of the victim’s house.’
The authorities have not released further information about the incident.
The authorities are investigating the case and is asking anyone with information about the incident to come forward to help them by giving the details of the event.
