Police said that two boys who are 1-year-old and 2-year-old were found dead, and a 70-year-old and a woman in her 30s were in critical condition following an apparent homicide-suicide attempt in Chicago’s South Shore neighborhood on early Thursday.
Officials were called to the 7200 blocks of South-South Shore Drive at around 1:45 am on Thursday. Investigators were called to the building to check a “person down” and first discovered a woman in her 30s and her son, about 1-year-old, on the ground.
A security worker at the building then took police to the 11th floor. Inside a flat, they discovered the man with wounds to his face and body.
They also discovered another boy, about 2-years-old, unresponsive in a bathtub. Police did not quickly have details on whether the woman was also the older child’s mother.
According to police, the man stated that his adult daughter “started stabbing him and then jumped from the 11th floor with her 1-year-old-son.”
Authorities said that both kids were declared dead at Comer Children’s Hospital.
The woman endured the fall, and she and the man both transported to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where they were in critical condition.
